Julie Shaw, C-IAYT, M.Ed.
IAYT-Certified Yoga Therapist, M.Ed., Winding Path Yoga
Julie received a Masters of Adult Education from Rutgers University and worked for several years as a corporate trainer. In 1988 her long commute resulted in back pain, so she looked up “yoga” in the yellow pages. From there she stepped into a life-long practice.
Although those early days of yoga helped her back pain, it wasn’t until Julie discovered Viniyoga that she began to understand how to access real relief. Gradually, she also learned that yoga supported her mental and emotional needs, and later still, the spiritual side of her life. Truly, this was yoga for the individual. Eventually, she became certified in Yoga Therapy by the American Viniyoga Institute,™ and now serves as faculty and administrator of that program.
For the past decade, Julie has offered targeted, therapeutic yoga to individuals with a wide range of conditions, including structural pain, headache, fibromyalgia, osteoporosis, diabetes, heart disease, anxiety, depression, sleep issues, and more, as well as people who simply want to stay healthy and connect to their deeper self. She has helped produce digital yoga courses on Meditation; Anxiety; Better Sleep; and Yoga Asana (Postures). She served for three years as Stress Management Specialist in the Dean Ornish Program for Reversing Heart Disease at Atlantic Health System in Morristown, NJ.
Yoga Therapy can help in so many different situations because it deals with the person, not the condition. This is the promise of a living tradition, lovingly handed down for millennia to those who seek to reconnect to their innate good health. To be part of this tradition is a joy, and one for which Julie is truly grateful.
